Dental visits/plans?

I have a few questions crammed into one:

1. Do dentists usually charge more for back teeth fillings than for the front? I only see upper and lower front fillings listed

2. I see "root canal treatment" and " crowns" and "Core Build-Up With Pins" listed as different things; do I get charged for each if I have a root canal?

3. I see "Single tooth removal" on the list of things in my potential plan; does this include wisdom teeth?

Dental visits/plans?
1. Yes, dentist do usually charge more for back teeth fillings than for the front. Back teeth have more surfaces and are more challenging to repair. Also most insurance companies will not pay the full amount to have a "white" filling on a back tooth. They believe that all back teeth should have silver fillings only. Insurance companies pay the dentist the amount that they would pay for a "silver" filling and the patient has to pay the difference of cost between the two along with their copay and deductible. Too keep your copay the lowest, have the silver filling.

2. Yes, a root canal treatment, crown, and core build-up with pins are all seperate procedures. If you have a root canal, you have to have a core build up and crown. Let me explain. When a tooth requires a root canal the doctor removes the "root" of the tooth along with all the decay. This makes the tooth weak and it could crack very easily. Because so much of the tooth is removed the doctor will place a "PIN" (core build up) in the tooth to help give it more structure. A crown is then placed over the repaired tooth so that you can use it again normally. Each is an individual procedure and is billed seperatly. The only other alternative to having the root canal, core build-up, and crown is to have the tooth extracted or removed. If left untreated it will only get worst and you will eventually wind up with an infection (abscess).

3. No, generally a single tooth removal is not the same as having a wisdom tooth removed. Wisdom teeth are much more complex to have removed and cost more. The wisdom tooth removal may be listed under "full boney extraction" or "partial bony extraction". The "single tooth removal" refers to teeth that can be removed without any surgical efforts.

If you still have questions, call and ask your dental office to explain the treatment you need to you. Im sure they will be happy to answer any questions you have.
Reply:Dentist charge be the number of surfaces of a tooth restored and by the restorative material used. Front teeth are a special category if the corner of the tooth is missing. That would be two surfaces. Cavities in between front teeth are one surface. Cavities between back teeth are always two or more surfaces.

Root canal treatment, core build-up with pins, and crowns are three separate items and there will be a charge for each.

Single tooth removal includes wisdom teeth unless they are impacted.

I hope I answered your questions.
