How do people afford dental work ?

alright im 18 years old , i live on my own , i have no dental plan or anything like that yet. i do work but the money that im making is just enough to pay my rent, bills and groceries and things like that. my bottom two front teeth are in REALLY bad shappe. there loose and it seems like everytime i brush them get even looser. even though i dont brush them that hard. i obviously need a lot of dental work. im gonna need those pulled along with two new fake ones. how do people afford this stuff ? i looked at some of the prices and its crazy. am i just supposed to go around with no teeth? like seriously .

Reply:sensible adults take a portion of their " fun money" and put it into a bank account to take care of emergencies.
Reply:Look in the phone book. See if there is a dental association and call them to see if they know of any dentist offering help to folks in your situation. In my city there is a program for low income people to get dental care. Or call a dentist and see ask what they would charge just to examine your teeth and see what you need. My dentist charges about $180.00 for an exam and cleaning with xrays. Put aside about $10.00 dollars a week so that you can pay yourself for an exam and cleaning if you can't find a free one. Find out what your really need along with the cost and then call around to find the cheapest you can get the work done for.
Reply:Is there a dental school near you? They may have a clinic where a student-supervised by a teacher- will do the work and it should be at a fairly reduced cost. Get started with care ASAP because if you get some nasty infection and all you could up having to have root canals done also. Good luck!

You can also research to find out if there's a local free dental clinic in your area. They assist low-income patients who don't have health insurance. The one in my area charges around $20 for most services, including fillings, and offers free cleanings. This would be a good option for you if you can't afford to get private insurance. Please take care of this as soon as possible so your teeth don't fall out!
Reply:Well, some dentists have payment plans available to you. You can get a credit card; apply for a dental loan. You can borrow money from your family or a friend who trusts you. Concentrate on what is most important first! The two teeth you mention should be top priority, because if they get infected that effects your overall health, and you may end up in the hospital if that goes untreated. Shop around, call as many dental offices you can and see who is the most willing to help you in your situation. Tell them what you need, two extractions and a partial for the two front bottom teeth and tell them that is all you want for the time being. Tell them you cannot afford a cleaning and all you want is a problem focused x-ray and problem focused exam, if they want to charge you more then call somewhere else. Good luck!

Reply:Contact the American Dental Association to verify where your local dental society is. They should be able to give you the names of dentists that provide free or sliding scale services.
